Disabled Adults' Rehabilitation & Resource Team
What is the service?
Disabled Adults' Rehabilitation and Resource Team (DARRT) is a community based, therapy team working with clients who have physical impairments, which may be progressive in nature and / or which frequently result in multiple and complex needs. The team offers Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy and is committed to joint working and collaboration in the community. DARRT often works jointly with local authority colleagues, primary and secondary care staff, and the voluntary and private sectors to support individual clients.
From September 2011 Therapists working alongside Generic Support workers are undertaking the interventions for clients with complex needs where a period of intensive rehabilitation will aim to improve or maintain independence. This service will be reviewed in March 2012.
Who is the service for?
Adults who:-
- have continuing, primarily physical impairment who
- would benefit from team working on rehabilitation goals and
- are registered with a GP in North Somerset
Anyone may refer to DARRT, with the agreement of the person being referred.
Most people referred to DARRT have impairments associated with neurological conditions for example Multiple Sclerosis or Motor Neurone Disease. DARRT therapists use specialist skills, experience and knowledge of neurological and musculo-skeletal rehabilitation and the often complex and diverse implications of physical impairments in addressing issues identified by clients.
Due to the majority of the patients seen by the Disabled Adults' Rehabilitation and Resource Team (DARRT) having a neurological long term condition, in 2010/11 the MS Specialist Nurse and Stroke Care Co-ordinator joined with the team to support this client group.
